Description
Nomadic punk trio Vivian K will officially release their sophomore album Verses via Creep Records (The Pains Of Being Pure At Heart, Jank).
Composed of Daniel Harris (guitar/vocals), Cass Jones (bass/vocals) and Jesse Cooley (drums/vocals) the band’s sound is more accurately described in adjectives than genre tags. Spazzy, mathy, emotional and poetic, Vivian K’s sound is accented by finger-tapped guitars, sung/scream vocals (shared by all three members) and cathartic drumming.
Speaking on their style Cooley said “we consider ourselves an emo band but we originally came from Orlando, FL where it’s a really big tech-metal scene. We have a lot of friends in that scene, all of our gear is practically hand-me-downs from metal bands and our biggest shows have been in that scene. As a result it helped to push our technical side as musicians as well as our energy level as a live band.”
Of the significance of the album’s title Cooley also revealed “our material on this album seems to eschew the standard verse/chorus structure. The songs are more story-oriented and focus on lengthy verse parts, so the title certainly fit.”
Believers in the DIY aspect of punk, Verses painted album artwork was contributed by Jones and the band’s relentless tour schedule is mainly self-booked. Vivian K has crisscrossed the nation playing venues, art spaces, basements and outdoor fests.
